The Periwig

Friday, 27 May 2011

I spoke to the manager of the Periwig today, who is a very good friend of mine. He wants some work doing for him over the summer with regards to creating t-shirts, posters and any of other promotional paraphernalia that they want doing. This is great because this is going to give me a lot of work to do over the summer and I am also going to get paid for it as well. What is also good is that the owner of the Periwig owns a lot of other establishments in and around my area and if my works good enough hopefully i will be able to do other promotional things for them. I have quite  a lot of freedom to do whatever i feel is appropriate, so long as its current.

Gravy Designs

Wednesday, 25 May 2011

I also rang up creative gravy today, one of the designers is a friend of my sisters and I have organized a visit around their studio for when im in London, i still need to confirm the date but they are more than happy to have me come visit them. What i lie about their design work is the facts its corporate but still innovative. I really love their website too i think its so sophisticated and clean, which is mimicked in their work.

The Evergreen Care Trust

Sunday, 22 May 2011

I will be doing some more work for the Evergreen Care trust this summer, its getting to the time where they have a lot of events coming up to help promote the charity and they would really like me to help out. I will be offering my services for free, obviously, and its such a good experience because they arn't just one client there are a lot of separate areas that may need me to do design work for them. One of them being the promotional good for the Summer Ball that is coming up. I will hopefully be designing their invitations and menu for the night, this is all really good experience because it means i can push my skills in my new found design practice. I am really looking forward to doing this because its for a good cause as well.

Satellite creative

Saturday, 21 May 2011

I have organized a visit around Satellite creative for when im in London, It is towards the end of the placement because it takes a while to get to their offices. instead of emailing them I rang them up, I find it a lot easier to talk to people over the phone then by email because you get an immediate response. They were actually really nice and helpful, so im looking forward to going around their studio. they are an agency that specializes in branding, logo design and editorials they also do web design but im not that interested in that element.

Duffields visit

Tuesday, 17 May 2011

I have organised a visit around Duffields printers for after the module hand in because im very busy right now and i want to focus on my work. So i am going to have a look around after the hand in and presentation, its really good because next year i will be living with the son of Duffields printers - Simon Duffield so i am going to have a huge source of knowledge of printing living with him!

Helens Logos

Tuesday, 10 May 2011

My friend asked me to help out with a project she was doing and design a logo for a company she was starting. I had a lot of free reign to do as much as i wanted with the logo. I designed a wide range of logos varying for sophisticated to quite modern and edgy. I think the blank and white work a lot better than the colour, but it was up to Helen to pick the ones she liked.

POPCORN - Feedback 2

I heard from Popcorn again today, I had to ring them as i hadn't heard back from James when he said i would. They said that he was away on a trip, but had told them to tell me that i can start in July and that it's for a couple of weeks. If things go well then i could maybe stay for a month depending on the work load and timing.
So i am very very happy right now!! I have secured a placement at a company that i really respect and really wanted to work with!

Enterprise Evaluation

BA Graphic Design - OUCE255
END OF MODULE EVALUATION

Throughout this module I have learnt a lot. It has been a completely different experience to anything I have done before, and I have enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I think this may have been due to the fact it was looking at design from a completely different angle, and actually focusing on how to make our practice real. Which was really exciting. Not having a background in any form of business I was completely learning thing's from scratch, which was satisfying as I feel I have walked away from this module with a whole set of new skills and wider knowledge base.
I found all the lectures interesting and took notes thoroughly in order for me to best understand them. I also found the tasks very interesting to do, as I mentioned before it was a great opportunity to try an analysis in a completely different way.

I really enjoyed the opportunity to create our own business. I really enjoyed working in my group and I know that we each worked really hard and we all felt as equally informed as each other. It was a great opportunity to put everything we had learnt into practice and really test what we had learnt, and I feel I came away from it knowing a lot more than I thought I did. I really enjoyed putting the presentation together, and it was nice to take on a brief in a different way and think about the logistics instead of the design. I think we delivered a strong presentation, with everyone being able to discuss their own parts in a confident and clear way.
I think my weaknesses within this module would have to be understanding the finance structures and how that all relates. I did my best to get to grips with everything and stay as involved as possible but I defiantly fall short when it comes to numbers, It's something that has never been my strong point. However, I did focus myself on understanding the structure of the finances so as to walk away with some basic understanding.

I think one thing i could have done better would be to use the quizzes that were available to us, i didn't utalise them fully i feel so next time i will.

How I would grade myself on the following areas:
5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor

Attendance 5

Punctuality 5

Motivation 4

Commitment 5

Quantity of work produced 4

Quality of work produced 4

Contribution to the group 5

Check Lists

I have been going through my initial notes when we first started putting the company together and I decided to go through some of our earlier business plans just to make sure that we had hit everything that we wanted to. I have filled them in and taken images, to show how much we have improved and how we have a solid ground base to be working from.
