Enterprise and Innovation
1. Over the last few years I have amassed knowledge in a variety of different areas within Graphic design, and I now feel I am a very diverse designer. I want to keep focused on this  because I feel it will give me more to offer clients, and be a more useful designer.

2. While looking into companies I am interested in, I have found that being part of a team really appeals to me. Having people that are like minded surrounding me, each person helping my creativity and vice versa. I feel this will push me as a designer as well as push the company I would be working within to be more creative and new.

3. When I finally graduate I want to be focusing my efforts in getting a design job within a print company such as TEAM, or working in a team based design studio such as Creative Spark, based in Manchester. They both appeal to me on separate levels but cover the basis that I like working within, branding and design for print.

4. I have also found from investigating the companies I am interested in that customer care, and client relationships are very important to me as a designer. I want my relationships with my clients to be personal so that they know exactly what I do and they know I will go out of my way to understand what they want from me.

5. Its important for me to create my own personal portfolio that really represents me as a designer as well as a person. When people view it I want them to know what they are getting and why they need me, essentially i want to leave them wanting more.

6. Another fundamental part to me being a successful graphic designer is that I want to target Networking events, because I feel this is where I will shine as a designer. I love talking about design and at these events I will meet people who are like me and would possibly want to work with me. So a key part to this is creating the right business card for me and for them, this is something i am going to focus a lot on when we reach this part after Christmas.

7. With regards to the competition, I need to make my work really stand out and to do this I need to become and expert in the areas I am interested in such as software, print and type. This is in order for me to appeal to a wide market, and be available for anything.

8. My ambition one day is to own my own small company, with my own fully functioning team of expert designers and my own varying client base that covers the areas I and my fellow designers would be interested in designing for.

9. As a designer I don’t want to be penned down to certain places for working I want to have worked in a variety of print companies, workshops and companies that work globally. One place i would love to work is in New York with a company such as Pentagram.

10. Another important part for my life as a Graphic designer when i start out is to try and work with companies that already have a lot of experience as designers or printers because I feel I will learn so much more from a company that has been functioning for a long time compared to a fresh company. I want to gain as much experience as possible before I settle into my chosen area and what I want to do.

"About Us

If you're successful, the chances are you take design as seriously as we do. Graphics are the reason we get up in the morning.

In marketing jargon, it's all about creating 'brand equity'. We prefer a more straight- talking northern patois. It's about building the bottom line; it's not about vain aesthetics.

We're identity specialists who are renowned for creative thinking and craft skills and we enjoy the challenge of problem-solving.

What's more, we're really rather good at it, which is why we were named in the top five of the North of England Design Consultancy
of the Year. "

What i like about this company is the focus on type and print. They work to brand and produce interesting projects for their clients as they focus on what the client really wants and take the time to get the know the client. Its really interesting to see this, because i think it works really well. They are (from the looks of their website) a sophisticated company that has focus on clean and crisp design. They are successful, especially the designers because they have won a variety of awards, it would be nice to get some sort of placement with them or even just visit to see what they are actually like.

We have used this approach across hundreds of jobs, in many markets — and for varied clients who trust us and our way of working. All this is done openly and honestly — our designers deal directly with you, working together to create flawless solutions."

The reason they interest me is because of the focus they have. I really like working with branding, and i have done it with a few of my projects and this interests me greatly. They have a great working ethos and seem to very team driven which really attracts me. They have clients such as: Peter Kay, POLICE, Toni and Guy and many many more. What i really like about this company is the simplistic approach to doing a job. I feel i could thrive in a company such as this because they have a lot of areas i think i would be strong within, and their simple approach to the job, the matter of fact take is something that has inspired me.

"

Business relationships, trust, honour, and all those old fashioned clichés that worked when I started out as an apprentice 35 years ago still matter now.

Duffields is an environmental printers. Their ethics are to work with nature and replenish what they take out of it. What i like about this company is the fact that ot only are they about the bonds between the client and the printer but they think about the world and environment too, they have ethics. Their experience in the print industry really appeals to me because of the fact they know what they are doing, they have a strong client base and they are reliable as well as sustainable. I feel my role within this company would be the designer between client and the printer, and i know they advertise for employees that are work driven and ethical but i feel i would fit this role because i am driven and i want to work to gain my experience.

TEAM

What is it? - TEAM

Where is it based? - LEEDS

"At Team Impression we have made our name working closely with designers and print buyers. As a long established Leeds-based printing and finishing company, with a comprehensive range of in-house facilities from litho to digital and packaging, our reputation is built on giving our clients solutions and ideas rather than problems"

- Their working ethic really appeals to me as a young designer. They arn't all about the bog standard print process, they are all about the communication between client, designer and printer. For this to be successful they need to have experience and strong knowledge of the industry, which they do and that appeals to me too. I want to work in a printers because i want to have that experience of properly designing for print, really learning the insides of it and how it truly works, so that i can then go to new companies and show them that i have a very useful skill. After our trip to TEAM, it did really inspire me because they work with the product from start to finish, so the product is mass produced but it still has a level of a personal feel, which is good. I don't want to go somewhere where it is just going to be generic and i will get swallowed up in it, i want to become a key part to companies functioning.
